I am planning to build a robot that has a video camera attached so I
can actually see where the robot is going while I remotely control
it. I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of camera to use for a
remote application like this. I am needing something with long-range
coverage at least greater than 1000 feet, and preferably greater than
2000. I was thinking about using a web cam, since I will be
controlling things from my computer, but I'm not sure how to integrate
it with a wireless network, especially with this kind of range.

You might try puting a wireless bridge on the robot, and
connecting a network cam to the bridge.

You may want to look into the Querkbot that was created by CMU. It uses
the Qwerk embedded computer that runs ARM Linux. It supports several
wireless USB cards and a few webcams. The only downside is price (~350
USD).
