The current generation of remote-controlled subs often prevent
thorough scientific observation of undersea phenomena due to the tight
spaces found along the sea floor. To mitigate such problems,
researchers are taking a cue from the animal kingdom and designing a
robot whose arms will behave in a similar manner to that of an
octopus.
