A few months ago the videos on this site of a remarkably fast line
follower were shown at the Atlanta Hobby Robot Club:

A member brought one in to the last club meeting and some others made
a makeshift line on a large sheet of paper for it to follow. The video
of it running the line (in its fastest successful run - it ran off the
line at full speed) is on the club webpage here:
