I just out up a large tracked robot base for auction. It was custom made for
me, but I never really used it and it's been sitting in my garage for years.
It can easily carry a 250 pound payload.

It's funny because I was just hat Home Depot looking at that very same
shelving units about an hour ago. Spotted it instantly in the picture!
Kinda thought it was a funny example of the cargo this "heavy duty"
platform could carry! (2 pounds of plastic). :)

I'm thinking of custom building some welded steel storage shelves as an
accuse to buy a welder and was looking at those fairly low cost $55 home
depot shelves wondering how I was going to convince the wife to let me
spend the extra money to make by own shelves. :)

So, Marcus, what was the intended use that motivated you to have your robot
base built in the first place?

I wanted to make a remote rover to traverse the 34 acre property I used to
own, complete with cameras and such. Unfortunately a divorce got in the way,
and I now live in a condo and the base lives in the garage.

Sounds like a very fun project. Sorry to hear you had to give it up.

I've thought it might be fun to put a robot in my fenced in back yard and
let people on the internet drive it around for the fun of it. I guess I'd
have to be careful not to leave a gate open! :)

Hum, maybe I should make it cut grass and let the people on the internet
take care of my yard for me! (I'd have to put some type of fence to protect
the plants). Maybe put a sensor on it to detect how much grass was being
cut and make it a game where people would log in and compete for a high
score based on how much grass they cut. :)
